About Ketcham Ranch

About Us

Chris and Betsy Ketcham have been aficionados of the P.R.E. since meeting the first one in person in 1994. We began our search for a riding horse and two years later, we purchased our first P.R.E., a weanling filly in Mexico. Since then, we have worked to build a small breeding program which aims to produce a handful of very high quality foals each year. We have focused on the bloodlines we have found to have superior athleticism, tractable temperaments, and structural integrity. Our core broodmares were imported from Spain and Mexico, and we have expanded the broodmare band to include the very important daughters of Gaucho III.

Our Philosophy

The P.R.E. is a superb riding horse, as well as being extremely athletic and beautiful. We like to give each adult horse a training foundation which includes a start under saddle using natural horsemanship methods and time riding out in the country where they are exposed to hills, cattle, water, and a host of other experiences, preparing them to be solid citizens throughout their lives.

Most of our adults and young stock live in small groups in pastures where they are free to run and play and to develop good social skills. They receive optimal nutrition with ample amounts of high quality hays (grass, grain forage, and alfalfa) and a balanced vitamin and mineral supplement from Kings River Nutrition (KRN) and of course we keep them up to date with a vaccination and worming program.

Location

We are located near the central coast of California in the rolling, oak-studded hills of San Benito County, about 15 minutes outside of Hollister. Our horses are raised on the historical Paicines Ranch, a working cattle ranch, where our young stock have plenty of room to run and play for optimal social and physical development.

Visitors are always welcome - please call for directions and appointment.
